About these lion coloring pages
The lion has been the animal every kid draws first for a reason: that big round mane, the wide confident face and a roar you can almost hear on the page. This set gathers cheerful cartoon cubs playing in the grass alongside carefully observed wild lions, so there's a page for a quick color-in or a long, detailed session.
The Easy pages are chubby storybook lions with thick simple outlines — a smiling cub, a curled-up sleeper, a friendly roar. The Detailed pages capture real lion anatomy, full pride scenes and ornate mandala and heraldic designs for adults. All free to print on US Letter or A4 as PDF or PNG.
Coloring tips and activities
- A lion's coat is warm sand and tawny gold — layer both and leave the muzzle and belly paler, then deepen the mane with browns toward the edges for a full, soft look.
- The mane is the star: work short strokes outward from the face so it looks like flowing fur rather than a flat ring, and leave a few pale highlights where the light would catch.
- Cubs are lighter and softer than adults, sometimes with faint spots — keep their coats pale and add just a hint of shadow under the chin and legs.
- Markers give the cartoon cubs a bold, punchy finish, while colored pencils layer the fine fur and whiskers on the realistic lions far more convincingly.
