About these elephant coloring pages

Not many animals are as satisfying to draw as the elephant: those enormous flapping ears, the long curling trunk and a body built for slow, steady steps. This collection runs from round-cheeked cartoon calves splashing at the watering hole to carefully observed wild elephants crossing the savanna, so there's a page for a quick five minutes or a long, patient afternoon.

The Easy pages are chubby storybook elephants with thick simple outlines — a sitting calf, a curled-up sleeper, two trunk-to-trunk friends. The Detailed pages show real elephant anatomy and busy herd scenes, plus ornate mandala and paisley designs for adults. All free to print on US Letter or A4 as PDF or PNG.

Coloring tips and activities

  • Elephant skin isn't flat gray — layer soft grays and warm browns and leave a few pale highlights along the back and trunk so the wrinkles read as texture.
  • On the realistic pages, follow the deep skin folds with short pencil strokes and press a little harder inside each crease to give the hide real depth.
  • The cartoon calves love bright, playful palettes — try dusty pink, soft blue or lilac, and leave the inside of the ears a lighter shade.
  • Water, dust and leaves are great spots for contrast: cool blues for the watering-hole splashes, warm tans for a dust bath and fresh greens for the branches they reach for.
